Inspecting Your Data
The Inspect tab lets you look at the individual passages (chunks) that were created when you uploaded your documents. You can review what the AI actually sees when it searches, manage file set tags, delete specific passages, and export your data.
Loading Passages
You can view passages in two ways:
- By file — Select a document from the Files in Database dropdown and click Load File for Viewing. This shows all passages from that one document, numbered in order.
- By file set — Select a file set from the File Sets in Database dropdown and click Load File Set for Viewing. This shows all passages tagged with that file set, which may span multiple documents.
Reviewing Passages
Each passage is shown in a table with:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Filename | Which document the passage came from |
| Chunk # | The passage number (e.g., "3 of 12" when viewing a single file) |
| Chunk Content | The text of the passage (click the expand button to see the full text) |
| Fileset | Which file sets this passage belongs to |
| ID | A compact identifier for the passage |
Click the expand button next to any passage to see its full text. This is helpful for verifying that your documents were split in sensible places and that important information wasn't cut off mid-sentence.
Tip
If you notice passages that split awkwardly, you can delete the document from the Browse tab and re-upload it with different chunk size or overlap settings.
Managing File Set Tags
File set tags let you organize passages into groups. You can add or remove tags from the Inspect tab without re-uploading your documents.
To tag passages:
- Select one or more passages using the checkboxes (or click Select All).
- Type a file set name in the File Set Label field.
- Click Add Chunk(s) to File Set to tag them, or Remove Chunk(s) from File Set to untag them.
This is useful for fine-grained organization. For example, you could tag specific passages from a long report with "Key Findings" so you can search just those passages later.
Deleting Passages
If specific passages contain irrelevant content (like a table of contents or copyright notice), you can remove them without deleting the entire document:
- Select the passages you want to remove.
- Click Delete Selected File Chunk / Rows.
- Confirm the deletion.
The confirmation dialog will show you exactly what will be affected. If you delete all passages from a document, the document entry and its source file are cleaned up automatically.
Warning
Deleting passages is permanent. If you want to restore them, you'll need to re-upload the original document.
Exporting Data
The Inspect tab offers two export options:
- Export Selected Chunks to .csv — Saves the selected passages and their metadata as a CSV spreadsheet. Useful for reviewing your data in Excel or sharing it with others.
- Export Full Database — Saves a complete snapshot of your entire database as a
.dbfile. This is a full backup that includes all documents, passages, tags, and settings.
